We are into our fall fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Fishing has slowed slightly on the reef but other fisheries have taken up the slack.
On the reef I have started to notice more free jumping sailfish off ft. lauderdale. Though we aren't getting more then 1-2 bites per day we are seeing more of them, hopefully pointing to a early season for them.
Also on the reef we are seeing wahoos, again not crushing them but we have been getting 1-2 bites per day and you don't need many 50lb. fish to give you plenty to eat.
On the bottom a good amount of muttons have been hanging on natural bottom as well as artificial reefs. These are nice fish from 5-15lbs and are really tough fighters.
Offshore we have been catching a good amount of dolphin. These fish have been mostly on the smaller size but a few bigger fish are mixed in. While dolphin fishing we have found some floating debris and the sm. wahoos have been in good numbers.
Swordfishing has been hit or miss recently with one trip giving you 3-6 bites and the next the sharks taking over and leading to no sword bites. The good news is there are some really nice fish around and these fish should be around through the new year. In the day the fish are still biting good with lots of big fish being caught.
Back inshore the mullet are still on the beaches off ft. lauderdale and following them are tarpon, snook, jacks, sharks, and other fish. It is great light tackle non stop action, just cast a mullet into the school and hold on.
