7 weight will take on about any fish the tippet will hold, serious reel for 15lb browns and steelhead and 25 lb salmon, no problem. @ Jake! How do you backlash a fly reel with drag?

I have been fishing the Okuma Helios model for 4 years now and own one in every size. They are great reels and very durable. The drag is easy to set and works flawlessly on everything from big browns to 4lb bass and 15lb carp. I have taken mine down to southern Mexico for bonefish and permits and they took all of them in without any problems. I love these reels!

The last review May 25 2006 sounds like someone who works for Bauer. This reel is awesome and holds up against any other reel, regardless of the price. I have abuse mine to no end (two different sizes) and have not problems. They constantly get submerged, long runs from big carp and gar, etc. Awesome reel. Best reel at its price point without a doubt.

I have been using the Okuma Helios 89 on Okuma Guide Select 8wt fly rod since 2006. I have caught plenty of fish in the 10-25+lb range and this reel handles them all like a champ. Great Looking reel that perfroms every time. Very Reliable!

I have the 7/8 on an 8 wt, 10' rod. It is by far the best reel i've had on for steelhead fishing. I've caught numerous 10-18 pound steelhead on this reel, and never had the drag fail. I'am also fishing when the weather is well below the freezing mark, and never had the drag freeze up. A testament to the water tight seal. I'm putting the 8/9 on my new spey rod.

Had this reel for about 4 years. It is a great reel . Had an issue with the drag, sent it back, they fixed it and has been perfect ever since.

I had the backlashing issue also. Got me 3 times and I decided to return the reel and try something different. I don't recommend this reel.

I've have many reels and I can attest to the great value of this particular reel. It is smooth, with reliable drag, easy adjustment, light weight, and with state of the art design. All for less than $160.00. I bought mine through Ebay for $133.99. This reel rivals Ross Evolution, Galvan Open Back, Orvis Battenkill, Bauer McKenzies. Compare the price and you'll see why this is a great value reel.

Great all around reel. Smooth drag, lightweight, easy adjustable drag, attractive design, perfect for saltwater light tackle, and virtually maintenance free drag system. Spool release is quick and easy. Craftmanship looks flawless. All for less than $160.00 I bought mine new thru Ebay for $119.95. This is a better value than my Orvis Mid-arbor Battenkill, Bauer JMs, Sage, Ross Evolution or Cimarron.

I'd give it a 9. I've only used it 4 times and will see how it will hold in a year. So far it has been an absolute delight! If it stays the same as it is now, it will be a 10.

I was bone fishing in Belize using the Helios 7/8 on an 8 wt rod. Hooked a nice one and he took off. I had the drag set at about 4 pounds static off the reel (I use a scale to set the drag). As soon as the drag reached it's release setting it BACKLASHED. I used it on a second fish - same result. I switched to my Bauer and had no problems.
