St. Johns River, Florida - Freshwater Fishing Report
Sanford
Eddie Bussard

The big schooling fish are still going strong and the shad run is really getting right on the St Johns River.Points and main river shell beds are the key to catching these big fish.Topwater baits and soft jerkbaits have worked best this week for my clients. A texas rigged JuneBug BlueTail Worm has also been producing some big fish underneath the schooling fish.Dave Rudd had a nice 6 pound fish this week on a 4 hr trip. Tom Hilton caught a 6 pound fish today on a six hr trip. The total fish caught this week has been 12 to 25 per trip not great numbers but most fish have been between 3 and 5 pounds The shiner bite is still red hot fishing the main river under floating grass mats. Hank Gallagher and Gill Ammerman won the JJ"S year end classic on the St Johns River with a 5 fish stringer weighing 27 pounds. This was a well deserved win for these great guy's This area of the St Johns River is only minutes from Orlando,Disney World and Daytona Beach.
