This week would prove to show why Mosquito Lagoon is known as "The Redfish Capital of the World".
A 3 day in a row charter with Ron Phillips from Orange City, FL. had his nephew, Rodney that was in town from North Carolina to do some redfishing. We couldn't have asked for better weather and the chewing fish.
Day 1 was to an area with stacked up fish and schools all around us. Getting them to settle down in an area and working them with a couple other guides made for some outstanding fishing. We boated over 15 reds with the largest going over the slot limit.
Day 2 was better. Ron's friend Gus joined us and we went straight to the same area. Seemed like a repeat from day one - just more fish boated! We ended the day with several over size, upper slot and perfect slot fish also. Over 40 reds later, we called it a day.
Day 3 guess what......REPEAT!!! We cornered a school of reds off a shell bar and they stayed there all morning bringing another 30 fish to the boat.
Day 4 was with myself, Captain Wayne Sommers and Ron. No different once again other than two other boats cornering them with us. With 6 guides on 3 boats, I don't think these reds had much of a chance especially when they were willing to eat everything we threw at em'. We landed over 20 reds within 3 hours.
That's why we ARE the "Redfish Capital of the World"!!!
Thanks Ron, Rodney for great times and memorable fishing this past week. Also thanks to Capt. Mike Mann, Capt. Tony Kozloski, Capt. Mike Savedow, Capt. Wayne Sommers, and Capt. Eric Tepleton for worken' em' with us!!
