Winter has arrived in East Central Florida with our first freezing temperatures after several previous warm winters in a row, watewr temperatures dropping into the 40's, driving fish into the deepest holes and channels, and shallow water schooling fish such as redfish, Seatrout, and Black Drum onto the shallow flats during the days sunshine. More back waters fish biting in winter like Bluefish and Sheepshead, also as our subtropical fish are at risk to such low water temperatures, reports of cold stunned Snook, Tarpon, and Jack Crevalle following the coldest nights. Schooling Redfish on the flats are always a winter target, a fun sight fishing techique, finding the school, poling the boat into position, to get a bait to the fish. Canadian clients Chris and Claudia had a great backcountry trip with me, catching a bunch of different species dropping shrimp into deep holes, then after the sun was up enough we switched to hunting the flats finding a shool of Reds in a backcountry oyster lined cove, landing 5 Reds on lihjt spin tackle, Claudia got the largest.................

but Chris being the experienced angler caught most of them.................

Repeat local client Rob from Orlando came along again on a backwaters trip,  catching Trout, Reds, Snook, Sheepshead, and others, friend Tim along in the group caught the big one an 8 lb. Black Drum..............

I even got out a few times scouting for fish on the flats at Mosquito Lagoon, casting artificial lures for search fishing looking for spots to bring clients back to later  on,  even getting to catch a few fish, Reds and trout on a sun warmed skinny water flat.................

Repeat client from Canada Steve came out with some friends catching a bunch of different backcountry species including the ever present Seatrout...................

Another Redfish from a fun scouting trip, as winter ends and spring arrives the busy charter season begins making for more charter trips and less scouting...................
