Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 12/15/07
Water Temperature Main Lake 57 – 59 degrees
Water Temperature Creeks 54 – 57 degrees
Fishing this week has really been great, the warm weather moved the fish to the shallows for a few days; and it gave a little boost to the baitfish activity. Hence the bass feed shallow during the warmer part of the days and feed early and late in the deeper water. With the correct choice of baits you were able to catch bass all day long. Not only the bass feed, but also just about every species in the lake feed most of the week, as we caught crappie, catfish, bream as well as bass all week long; all on typical bass lures.
I fished mainly the mid to upper part of the lake this week, working on areas from 4 feet to 9 feet of water. The baits that seemed to produce the most bites were either a worm or jerk bait. However we fished, Tight-Line Jigs, rattle baits and small crank baits and caught fish on all of them. The bigger fish are definitely in a winter pattern so all these baits had to be worked slowly and precisely over typical winter structure.
We are about to start gaining daylight every day after we get past the winter solstice on the 21st of December. My history shows that fishing always gets better after the winter solstice especially on the warmer sunny days. The bigger fish will feed during the warmest part of the day, so the midday fishing should be excellent once this occurs.
I'm now booking into 2008; please call early for your preferred dates.
