Anyone who says they don't like fishing has never fished in Southwest Florida during the months of May or June. I can't imagine a better bite than what I experienced today. I started the day early, around 6:00am with a good buddy of mine Mark Mulligan. We put the boat in at Pineland Marina and headed to Cayo Costa for bait. After chumming the water with my personal chum recipe, we were quickly surrounded by bevy of white bait. It took no more than three throws of the net to black out both live wells. I then took the boat to Boca Grande Pass and the Tarpon bite was hot, not only in the Pass but on the beaches too. Plenty of large pods of fish in the 10 to 12 ft. depth along the beach side of Gasperilla Island. The trick is to shadow the fish and not spook them, get ahead of them, cut the motor and cast a live white bait or crab into there path and wait. If you haven't spooked them, then the fight will soon be on. After chasing Tarpon on the beach the better part of the morning we decided to go to the harbor side of Gasperilla and try our luck at the Snook bite. I set up on the southern tip of the island around the old phosphate docks, dropped the Power Pole and threw a handful of baits out to turn on the bite. It only took a minute or so before we had the first Snook of a 40 Snook day. That's right, 40 plus Snook, with multiple double hookups. If I didn't have photos, no one would believe me. Plenty of good, fresh, lively bait is the key and let's not forget my lovely wife who allows me to use her food processor to mix my chum. So get up! Get going and "GO CATCH EM"
