It was a great week on the water! I was on the water several days and with the exception of Friday I found the fish to be fairly active; on the good days I averaged 15 to 20 bass a day and missing another 15 or so. Thursday I had a best five stringer of 23 lbs. I went back to those fish on Friday with a client out of Atlanta and his grandfather and unfortunately found 3 guys in a boat all over them; they hung on those fish for over 2 hours and by the time we could get into them they were sore mouthed pretty well. I guess I wasn't the only one who new they were there. The bad news was that made for a bad trip on Friday only putting 3 fish in the boat, and I'm sure I had a couple of disappointed clients.
It appears the best bite all week came on a Rattle bait of some kind, although we did catch fish on a variety of baits, from a lizard to a Flame spinner bait to a Tight-Line jig. We did sit in a ditch on Wednesday with a lizard and caught about 5 in a row on successive casts. That was fun watching my client pull in back to backs, several times in a row.
Most of the week the fish were caught shallow in less than 4 feet of water in the upper part of the lake.
I'll be back on the water most of this week, but I do have some openings for you last minute guys trying to find that big bite.
I still have openings in March and a few in April, and so far May is wide open with a few exceptions. Come fish the grass it's a great time to put lunker bass in the boat.
