Water temp: 59 degrees
After spending all of last week on the water except for thanksgiving. Saturday was the tuff. The wind changed and so did the bite. After having a north wind for several days the bait was schooled up pretty good in Coon Creek. On Saturday the wind started pushing them out and spreading them out. We caught fish, but not quite the bite we had Friday. We caught both stripes and bass, but had several missed fished due to short strikes. I changed lures, tried differnt colors, and even shortened my trailers. We still had trouble getting them to commit. The stripes are moving and that makes it hard to sit on them with live bait, plus the wind picked up which added to the problem. No more trips for me to the dam, I'll be fishing the middle and north ends of the lake for a while.
One thing I left out on my report from Friday, was something that most people that spend time on the water understand, common courtesy. I had a guy run up on me, while we were fishing a point back in Coon Creek. He ran full speed right next to use, then cut in front of me about 20 feet and stopped. We lost a rig because I moved over to shallow to make sure he didn't hit use. Thanks, we had a young one on our boat, so I held back and all he got was some bad looks. There were three people in his boat and not one of them would even look our way. Glad that doesn't happen much, most people I come across on the water are nice and friendly people.
If your interested in fishing Smith Lake for either striped bass or bass give me a call.
