Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 9/15/07
Fishing this past week was mixed, some of the tendencies from last week like the wind did not create the bite like I expected. The overcast skies only had a minor effect on the bite. It seemed that the mid day regardless of weather elements produced the bite, and you had to be fishing areas where the shad were being chased by the bass. I believe there is so much baitfish that you had to get in the middle of them feeding on them to find the fish that would allow you to have some fun.
We had days with catches of 10 to 15 bass and some days we struggled with just a 4 to 6 fish catch and the bites were light and a little short for some of those times on the water.
I spent most of the week in the mid to lower part of the lake, looking for active baitfish. Fishing a Tight-Line Jig in black and blue color, Punisher's Flame Spinner bait in watermelon color, a big worm and some top water baits early in the mornings. We did throw a "rat" some but only with little results this past week.
I've started back fishing a rattle bait some and starting to get a few strikes on it, as the grass dies and the pre-winter feeding frenzy gets stronger and stronger the "rattle bait" bite will get better and better.
The fish are still pushing back to the creeks and should keep increasing the bite as the next few weeks unfold. Lets hope for some gradual cooling where the bite will just keep getting better and better.
I still have available dates in September and October; please call to check on availability for your needed date.
