This past week the fishing continued to keep anglers and there captains busy. The edge from 120 feet out to 250 feet was electric blue with a strong north current, which we all know means good fishing. The action outside of 250 feet consisted of mostly small Dolphin and some stray Blue Marlin. To the south in 130 ft Saturday and Sunday we caught several Sailfish and some nice Black Fin Tuna. The fish were eating mostly small baits fished from the kite. We had several tuna up to 30 pounds. On the reef inside of 100 ft. you could find some kings but they were small over the weekend. Bottom fisherman should be able to find some Mutton Snapper over the shallow reefs this time of year. We don't fish much for them but I have heard of several being caught. We fish for Mutton Snapper on the deeper wreaks and have caught a few lately.
The next couple of weeks should produce some more larger Dolphin and maybe a Wahoo or Blue Marlin. The Dolphin have been small but usually about this time each year the fish start to grow and move into our area. The best way to catch them with the high fuel prices is to keep the speed down and slow troll with strip baits and Bally Hoo. If you don't want to spend money on bait you can use feathers and small lures, they will also work and you can move faster through the water with out the baits washing out.
If you are going to fish the next couple of weeks we also recommend you fish early, or late. During the heat of the day the fish are usually not in the biting mood.
