The water temps have made it back into the upper 70s by days end in most areas around Sebastian. This, in part, has resulted in more catching. Yesterday evening during a 4-hour trip we had 6 reds, 6 snook, and a bunch of trout, a much better catch rate then we had been achieving since the last cold front moved through several days ago. None of these fish were huge, but they all were large enough to put up decent fights on light tackle. Awesome fun! The wind is still a factor in the afternoons, but at least it has been relatively calm in the early mornings the past couple of days. Hopefully the weather will continue to improve and stabilize. If it does, the fishing should get better.

During recent trips we have been catching all three species trout, reds, and snook on the shallow flats or right along the edges of flats were the water drops off from about 1 foot to about 3 feet. Bait, grass, and current flow have been the key, and like I said, higher water temps have not hurt either. We have spooked fish from very shallow water as well. These fish continue to hit the Yo-Zuri 3D Fingerlings and Rip-Tide and DOA soft plastics rigged on 1/8 oz red jig heads. I have been trying the new green-backed prism color pattern Yo-Zuri introduced this year and it is producing just as many fish as my favorite TM color pattern. Looks like I now have two go to color patterns in the 3Ds.

We are still working these lures at a moderate pace with a pause. The fish last evening were very aggressive, more aggressive then I have seen in a while, so the pause did not have to be very long. They pounced on the lures just as they stopped. I will always pause my lures when I fish, but it appears the fish are warming up to the warmer temps so a more aggressive presentation will also work. That means, top-water plugs should become more and more effective as well. I am very much looking forward to some hot top-water action in the early mornings and late evenings. Until next time. Tight-Lines to all.

Sincerely,

Capt. Ron Bielefeld
