Sal Mattino

It's that time of year again, with afternoon thunder boomers moving in around noon time. But before that happens we head out early to catch some live baits. We fill our livewells with the anticipation of filling the fish box with some table fare.

First stop was the six mile reef. We set up live baits on #5 circle hooks with 50lb flurocarbon leader. The leaders are attached to Sampo #100 ball bearing snap swivles.Main line is Hi-Vis Suffix brand monfilament.Rods used are Ugly Sticks with Fugi reel seats and slick butt grips.

Lines are not in the water for five minutes when my Penn 7500 screams out!I tell my fishing partner to start the boat because we need to chase this one! With that we are spooled almost half way down from a new spooling of the Suffix Hi-Vis line.I was able to gain enough line back to give my self a breather.

After a twenty six minute battle my partner gaffed a nice fourty pounder that measured just about 48 inches in length. During the rest of the day we boated numerous Bonito. We also hosted numerous cut offs & short strikes of schoolie size Kingfish!Thats my report from St. Lucie Sportfishing Charters! Til next time Capt. Sal.
