Anna Maria Island January Fishing Report

Happy New Year from Anna Maria Island Florida. I hope everyone had a great holiday. We had some tremendous fishing over the Christmas and New Year season. The weather was as nice as it gets for this time of year, almost too hot, surpassing the mid 80s. With water temps in the mid 70's the flats fishing was excellent. I spent most of the last couple of weeks fishing for Snook, with Redfish, Trout and Flounder mixed in. Some of the better days we caught over 50 Snook.

Mackerel, Snapper and Flounder are on the beach, along with a few Triple Tail and Cobia. Offshore fishing has mainly been Grouper, a few Snapper, Cobia, and False Albacore. With water temps so warm there are still a few Kings out there.

That pretty much sums it up right now; great weather and good fishing has really been enjoyable. I am starting to fill up for this spring and Tarpon season. February and March are my favorite inshore Snook, Redfish and Trout months. April is probably our best month overall for fishing because it is the best month for offshore and one of the best for inshore. May thru about the 3rd week in July I switch over to Tarpon. So if you are looking for a trip in the future now is the time to make your plans. I hope everyone has enjoyed my report and has a great 2016.
