Mosquito Lagoon,New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach FL Fishing Report.
It seems as though spring had never arrived it went from winter to summer over night. But with that being said the fish have adjusted very well to the above average air temps. The mullet have started to move in from From Daytona Beach south through the creeks on New Smyrna Beach and scattered through out Mosquito Lagoon. As everyone knows bait fish bring game fish as in redfish , trout , snook and many other species. Look for the redfish and trout mixed in with the bait early in the morning on the shallow grass. As the sun starts to rise by late morning the fish seem to be moving into a little deeper water on the flat. Top water plugs and soft plastics early in the morning have been working well along with live mullet and shrimp. As the day moves on switching that plug for a Aqua Dream Spoon has been working great for the redfish and staying with the soft plastic for the trout. I have also started to see some tarpon making a appearance around New Smyrna and Edgewater area. The bite has been pretty good for snook , jacks and trout around the docks in New Smyrna Bch. Twitch baits and large shrimp have been the go to baits along with a soft plastic on a jig head. I have also had some good reports of cobia being caught off the beaches from Canaveral north to New Smyrna Beach. Look for the rays or debris to be holding cobia under them you may also find them free swimming too. I like to use buck tail jigs either bare or a lot of times I will put a soft plastic on the jig as a tail. Pitching live bait to them works just as well like mullet, pin fish or eels.
Good luck and be safe!
