Big Alabama Jordan Lake Coosa River Spotted Bass!

A four pound and a five pound spotted bass!
A four pound and a five pound spotted bass!

Alabama and other surrounding southern states are know for growing big, trophy-sized spotted bass. There have been both state record spotted bass and world record spotted bass taken out of Smith Lake, Al. A very deep man made impoundment with cool, clear rocky waters of over 300 feet deep in some places.

Lake Martin, situated near the town of Alexander city, Alabama can boast of a very healthy spotted bass population. Upstream, this lake is seperated by Lake Harris dam.

Thislake iswhere the two rivers of the Big and Little Tallapoosa River systems converge, and a man made lake impounded in 1983, is called "Lake Wedowee" (actually Lake Harris) which is close to the nearby town of Wedowee, Alabama.

Alabama has spotted bass every where!

The Warrior River System, The Tennessee River System the Tombigbee River System, the Alabama River System and of all of these and other Alabama lakes having "spots", there are lots of big spotted bass to found in any of the six Coosa River lakes.

Weiss lake, Neely Henry lake, Logan Martin lake, Lay lake, Mitchell lake and Jordan lake have shown plenty of trophy-sized Coosa River breed of spotted bass (those in the 5-8 pound range)taken in years past, especially as waters begin to cool in October on into November.

The last of these Coosa River lakes -- Jordan Lake -- (impounded in 1928) is known world wide as "the place to be" for targeting big spotted bass, those exceeding 5 pounds, during the cooler days of fall and early winter.

Fishing big, oversized topwater lures like the 3 hook model Zara Super Spook or the larger size Lucky Craft "Sammie" will elicit some very explosive strikes on Jordan Lake!

Crankbaits, jerk baits, spinnerbaits, finesse worms and jig combos all take big spotted bass in the fall and early winter seasons.

Always use good dependable equipment, sharp hooks, strong lineand bring along a good net...your going to need it!
