Lay Lake's Headwaters is The Place to be this Winter Season!
By Reed Montgomery
A recent trip to Lay lake (site of the Feb. 2010 Bassmaster Classic)fishing the lake's headwaters, produced these nice chunky 4-5 pound Coosa River Spotted Bass!
Despite the weather you can catch quality bass in these Lay lake headwaters all throughout the winter months.
We mostly use black and blue and pumpkinseed colored 1/4 ounce jig combos. Stained water, water temps near 50 degrees, slight current from water generation at the dam and a partly cloudy mid 50 to 60 degree sky...can make for a great day of fishing!
In all you can have a dozen spotted bass, some weighing from 2- 5 pounds! Striped bass (about 5 pounds each)are here too!Largemouth bass (about 3-5 pounds) will complete your day fishing these Lay lake headwaters!
Not a bad place for a cold winter day on Alabamas' Lay lake!
