Anglers Inn & Captain Peacock

An Unbeatable Combo For Amazon Angling

By Billy Chapman Jr.

We're excited!

If you've ever visited one of our Anglers Inn Lodges at El Salto or Lake Mateos it won't be hard for you to understand why. Now, you see, we're prepared to provide the same kind of Anglers Inn unequalled service and accommodations for those anglers wanting to make the fishing trip of a lifetime deep into the heart of the Amazon.

We're not only prepared, our Anglers Inn Captain Peacock Amazon operation is already up and running. Following is the first of regular fishing reports we'll be posting from now on as to the kind of success our clients are having with the jungle's fabulous peacock bass.

As some already know, we've joined forces with operators of the Captain Peacock, a 95-foot private yacht that accommodates up to 12 anglers for Amazon fishing. We'll take you to where jungle fishing prospects are best and provide first class service in everything from accommodations to food and drinks in the process. You won't be limited to fishing just one close in location where the bass have been pounded day after day.

There's already been lots of action for those anglers who've been fishing peacock bass aboard the Captain Peacock the first two weeks in November. We were booked to capacity for the first week of November. Most of these anglers had never before had a line in freshwater. Despite their lack of experience, they boated a total of 997 peacock bass up to 22-pounds in size.

Exact totals for the first week were as follows: 997 total fish with 24 of more than 10-pounds and three of more than 20-pounds.

The following week our 12 clients took 890 peacocks. Ninety bass out of this total were fish of more than 10-pounds and 14 topped 20-pounds. The largest of these beautiful jungle peacocks weighed 24-pounds, 5-ounces.

One of our November guests also caught a pirarucu that weighed 110-pounds. He brought it to the boat on 20-pound line. We don't know for sure, but that might be close to a line weight record for these fish. We're in the process of endeavoring to find out if line size records are maintained for the pirarucu by the International Game Fish Association.

If you've not already booked your Amazon trip with us, keep the dates of Jan. 27 through Feb. 4 in mind. Joe Thomas, the prize winning bass pro who has his own television show on the Outdoors Channel, will be coming on those dates. We'll be joining him. Sign up to be one of our clients on these dates and you just might wind up catching fish that will later appear on one of Joe's TV shows.

Here's something else that's unique to our Amazon operation. Don't hesitate to bring your wife or a female companion along with you. Even if they don't choose to fish, they'll still have opportunity just to relax on a luxurious yacht and have a splendid opportunity to view one of the most fascinating regions of the world up close and careful

As we've already mentioned, if you're one of the thousands who has visited one of our Mexican bass fishing lodges, you already know what to expect when you come on board the Captain Peacock. You may be in a remote area of the Amazon jungle but you'll headquarter in luxurious, air conditioned staterooms and do your dining in quiet elegance with an experienced crew to take care of your every need.

Your actual fishing will be done from one of our 17 -foot metal boats. Each of these boats have casting decks fore and aft and come equipped with comfortable swivel seats so you can relax after boating a big one.

You'll find our fully equipped fishing boats carry everything from coolers for snacks and drinks to long range VHF radios for communication. Incidentally, you won't have to guess about the size of the fish you catch. Each of our guides has certified Boga Grip scales. If it says the peacock bass you just boated weighs 20-pounds, 5-ounces---you can be assured that's exactly what it is.

And that's not all. When you call to book your own trip be sure to ask about our Anglers Inn Captain Peacock Deluxe Jungle Package. It's really something! Among other things, it includes rods and reels designed especially for peacock bass fishing as well as the upgraded baits and terminal gear guaranteed to help get one of those savage jungle bass to the boat.

You can forget all about the hassle sometimes associated with getting your fishing gear in and out of a foreign country. You just take care of getting here and we'll take care of everything from then on.

When we say "upgraded lures" we're talking about baits that have had regular hooks replaced with extra stout treble hooks and items like especially strong split rings. As too many jungle anglers have discovered, peacock bass often tear up gear that won't withstand the demands they'll make of it.

All of the tackle you'll have access to comes from the Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris Signature Series and was selected with the personal attention of Morris himself. Moris is the former bass fishing pro who owns Bass Pro Shops. Johnny, a guy who was a good enough angler to qualify for some of the early day Bassmasters Classics, is himself an experienced peacock bass fisherman. You can have every confidence the gear he selected for our Amazon operation will get the job done for you.

And there's still more to the story. We've known anglers who've stayed away from the Amazon out of apprehension about not being able to get the required care if they experience some kind of accident or medical problem. That's an understandable apprehension for any thoughtful angler planning to go fishing in a remote area of the world.

We've got you covered. The Anglers Inn Captain Peacock Deluxe Jungle Package we mentioned includes Global Rescue, the rescue unit known world-wide for the emergency services it provides. In the unlikely event one of our clients does have a problem evacuation by air will be immediate.

Fish the Amazon and you need a qualified guide. Every darn one of the guides who serve Anglers Inn Captain Peacock clients has had at least 10 years of experience. If you've fished out of Anglers Inn at Lake El Salto or Lake Mateos you know the kind of expertise our guides there have. You'll find exactly the same thing in our Amazon operation.

The thousands of bass fishermen who have fished out of either of our fishing lodges will tell you the same thing---the service, food and accommodation just doesn't come any better at fishing lodges anywhere in the world. That's one of the reasons why we were inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. Rarely have fishing lodge operators and outfitters been similarly honored.

Some of our prospective clients have asked what area of the Amazon they will be fishing. The answer is your fishing will be done on the beautiful Rio Negro River, the largest tributary of the Amazon, as well as the Rio Negro's own tributaries and lagoons. Keep in mind that when you book with us you're not limited to fishing in just one area. The Captain Peacock takes you where the fish are and where the prospects are best.

You may be in a remote area of the jungle but when the day's fishing is done you'll return to relax aboard the Captain Peacock in luxurious, air conditioned staterooms and to do your dining in quiet elegance with an experienced crew to take care of your every need.

We guarantee you'll also go home with pictures of your big ones. We can say that because we also make certain our guides carry the digital cameras we provide for that purpose. Want a replica mount of your largest peacock? No problem. We'll get the measurements of your bass prior to its release and then give you a special discount on a mount you'll treasure for the rest of your life.

You'll need to have nine days for your Anglers Inn Captain Peacock Amazon adventure. Of those nine days, six and a half will be spent actually fishing. You'll fly from the United States to Manaus, Brazil. Some flights will leave to Manaus from Miami. Others will leave from Atlanta. Complete information in this regard will be provided when your trip is booked.

Want a preview of what you'll be a part of when you get into the Amazon? It's as close as your computer. Go to www.youtube.com/anglersinntv. You'll get a close up look of what's in store for you. Take a close look at the size of some of the bass you see. We'll give you opportunity to get others just like them when you get here.

Talk to somebody who has ever hooked a peacock bass and we've a good idea of what they'll tell you. Chances are it will go something like this: "Wow! I've caught my share of fish but I swear I don't have words to adequately describe the way those peacock bass slam into a lure. It' something you've got to see for yourself."

We couldn't agree more. That's why we're so pleased to provide you with the details of our new Anglers Inn Captain Peacock Amazon adventure. We were one of the first to pioneer Amazon peacock bass angling. That was another of the points made when we were inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. We've spent years observing fishing in that remote part of the world. We're both thankful and pleased that we now have opportunity to get fishermen into this region with the luxury and service the Captain Peacock makes possible.

Again, we'll be providing regular reports from our Amazon operation here at the Anglers Inn web site. Remember that we're limited to 12 clients per trip aboard the beautiful Captain Peacock. If you have interest in joining us, by all means give us a call immediately. With limited space available, it doesn't take long for trips to fill up fast.

Join me on my next Amazon adventure, slated for Jan. 27. You can reach us via e-mail at info@anglersinn.com or better yet--- give us a toll free call at 1 800 468-2347 or contact us through www.anglersinn.com. You're not going to regret it!
