No, this is not about an old James Bond movie. It's about a young woman named Albina Iksanova who is from Russia. She is on Cape Cod on a student work permit. She is staying at my neighbors house and I promised to take her and her host Heather fishing for some bass and bluefish. We had gotten out once this spring but the weather was windy, cold , and rainy. This time it was the end of June and it was warmer, no wind, and no rain
Albina is a small framed young lady. She just turned 21 but if she hits 90 pound it would be amazing. This is going to debunk the myth you have to be really strong to land a big bass because Miss Albina handled a good size bass with ease.
The first time I had her out it was near the end of May. We were off the Brewster Flats in Cape Cod Bay trolling a small swimming plug on 12 lb. test lead core line on a light weight conventional casting rod. She hooked up on a nice 32 inch bass and with some instruction was able to land it. I video taped it and put it up on You Tube under Sport fishing Cape Cod Bay and titled it "Albina Goes "Fishin". This way her family in Russia could see what she had done. From what I was told her whole family was impressed and particularly he father who does a little fishing himself. Needless to say, Albina was beside herself.
Now we come to the trip at the end of June. We took the whole day and did some trolling with some of my newly designed tackle landing some nice bass and bluefish. Albina caught her share. We went off the Brewster Flats in the area of the new Grounds and drifted sea clams. Here is where this slight little Russian woman took on the fish of her life, so far that is. Albina hooked into a 20 pound bass on 6 pound test tackle. Twelve minutes later she was holding her prize. I wonder what her family will thing of this? It is now up on You Tube titled "Alnina's Big Bass".One other item to take note of. Thirty years ago this would not have been able to happen. A young Russian student being a welcomed employee on Cape Cod or any where in this country. What changes await us?
