In the fall of the year it can be extremely tough and I know there is days out there that you just wish you could get a bite regardless of the size. It seems that the fall of the year can really be feast or some big
Struggles; the big fish head deep into the grass and make it difficult to have a fun day on the water.
There are a few things that I do when a customer says, "man lets just get a bite," the first thing is to head to the grass edges and fish a small shallow running crank bait, the next is to start fishing finesse worms or 4-inch grubs. The new spawn from the spring is now out feeding they like smaller baits and they generally are more aggressive than the bigger fish in the fall. So downsizing really helps! Instead of being buried in the grass the small fish work bait on the edges and cause feeding in bunches; so look for the bait being chased in most cases it's this years spawn working the small bait and all you need to do is fish where they are.
The second thing is if the feeding is in open water, a small oz. Rattletrap is also a good way to find those bites. Take that trap yo-yo it by keeping it just over the dying grass and running it through the scattering bait and I promise you'll catch them small fish. Hold on tight though, because you'll be surprised how hard these small fish will hit that trap. Small fish can make a tough day into some fun on the lake, come fish with me I'll show you how to find them!
