The Astro Tables for 2008 are more effective and reliable than the Moon Tables, because they take into account the critical solar energies as well as lunar energies. These critical footnotes are the beliefs of many behind the feeding patterns of most fish and animals. Here are some effective tips on reading the Astro Tables. The "Best Days" column are based on the changing position of the sun and the moon on a rating scale of 0 to 100 the higher the rating the better the fishing. Hence the more solar/lunar influence passed on then the better the day should be to fish. My personal experience tells me that this is one of the best indicators of strong feeding days for the largemouth bass. Ratings above 65 have produced a stronger bite than the lower ratings. I have been keeping these ratings as part of my fishing log for years and the high ratings consistently produce better fishing.
The "Lunar Influence" lists the times the moon is overhead and under foot. The length of the period runs up to three and a half hours, depending on the number of important lunar cycles. This tells you how close the moon is to the earth that day and how high its orbit is. The table also uses symbols to alert you when the lunar periods are occurring at the same time as the solar period i.e. dawn, noon and dusk. The significance here is the pure belief that most people believe that the peak movement and feeding of fish occurs when the moon is directly above head or directly beneath (under) foot; hence new moon, full moon. I also believe there is something to the bite being better on full moon days and new moon days, in fact the three days before and after these periods has traditionally produced better fishing days for me.
Hope this gives you some insight into the using the "Astro Tables."
