Happy new year to all the readers of Reel Reports 2010 a new time to begin again. Now lets talk fishing. This time of year is one of my favorites. I love the cold morningsof January and February, the power plant lakes that I guide on get right for Bass fishing. The water gets around 75-80 and the fish love to eatwhen this happens.
Lake Bastrop has always been agood lake to come to and catch lots of 2-3 lb fish but the one thing you need to remember about Lake Bastrop isthat you need to think small on this lake. I have studied the shad on this lake and they are very small --1in to 1in and a half so your baits need to be close to this size. Now thats not to say you can't catch fish on big baits on Lake Bastrop, but your catch ratio will be much better with smaller baits. I love to fish the Lucky Craft Sammy 65 on this lake. It is the perfect size topwater bait. I also like to fish the Bass Assassin Baby shad soft plastic on spinning tackle on this lake just go small on this lake and you will load the boat.
Now let's discuss Lake Fayette County. January tends to be a fun time on Fayette. I have had some great mornings on this lake with my goto bait the frog! The retail market is saturated with all types of soft plastic frog baits. I have tried a variety of different types and I keep coming back to the Snag Proof Floating frog in white color. This bait can be fished slow of fast with a walk the dog type motion. To determine what the fish want on that particular day you may have to experiment with both a fast and a slow retrieve. After the morning bite slows down work your way out to the main lake points and find the grass. I know you all have heard the saying "Bass are in the grass" and it still holds true to this day. Bass are in the grass fish your go to bait and your will do great. I would like to thank the folkes that make this happen for me everyday. Texas Outback magazine Culprit lures,Bass Assassin,Tica fishing tackle,TTI-Blackmore fishing group,Conquistador tackle, Maxima fishing line,Kickin Bass and Rod Wrap thanks for your support.
