The incredible thing about color is that everyone has a different opinion as to whether color really matters. I have some beliefs about color that I would like to share with you! The first belief is, do not let people confuse you with lure color. When the fish are really biting some anglers will swear that color is the reason they had a good day. If they had a bad day they will be convinced that they used the wrong color. I personally don't believe any of it.
Color only matters when the fish are not biting, and then and only then does color sometimes make a difference. I use the word sometimes because there are days that no matter what color you throw the fish just don't bite, and then there are days when they bite every color. Wow confusing I know, but the real truth is that in stained lakes like Guntersville, dark colors from black to green to red and purple will all catch fish when they are on! In clear lakes whites and silvers and shiny colors will catch fish when they are biting. Oh by the way if there not biting, none of it may work.
The best way to find the right color is to try and match the water, that is why greens and blues and reds all work well on Guntersville, because our lake appears to be all those colors most of the year, our stain is mostly green, yellow, red and black most of the year!
When I have customers in the boat, I generally if fishing is tough have them set up with different colors to see if a tuff day can be turned by color differences! Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not! So I guess you're totally confused, but here is what I can put money on! If you feel confident throwing a certain color stick to it, because confidence is more important than color!
