The heat is on, you know, the dog days of summer. The sweltering sweat box, the melt down, however you say it, it's hot here in Texas. I am sure some of you, like me, will opt for the early mornings to be on the lake and off by noon. But I am sure others have done some night time fishing to beat the heat of the day. It can be a lot of fun and is also very rewarding. Especially when that bass blows up that top water bait. The sound is awesome and it gives me a heart attack every time it happens.
So let's talk about some things you can do on Fayette county and Lake Bastrop to catch more bass at night. If I plan on working the banks, I will find the loudest top water bait, such as buzz bait or an injured minnow type bait with big props so it makes a lot of noise. "I want the bigger bass to hear the bait and come find them." I will also fish deep water this time of year, positioning myself out in 20 foot of water or so looking for humps or tank damns. At these spots I will utilize my Texas rig or Carolina rig. Both techniques will produce fish in deep water. My go to lure is a 12" Culprit worm in black color, but that is just me. There are so many choices of baits and colors available these days, fish the bait you are confident with and have fun.
Which brings up the question: "do you fish the full moon or the new moon? and which one is better?" I have gathered my notes and seems to be an even race. Some full moon nights have been awesome, but there have also been nights that the fish feed constantly when the moon is new. Since I have had such success and some disappointments during both moons, I am not the best judge. I do know this, for the last 6 months I have been using the new Tica-tactica series 7 foot rod model #WLSA70H1 with their Sculptor reel, and I am in love. This rod has Fuji alconite guides and the line sings through them with ease. The rod has so much power for getting fish out of grass and it is so light! Thanks Radley for the opportunity to fish with Tica Global.
I would also like to thank the folks that make this happen for me every day. I would like to thank Texas Outback Magazine, Culprit Lures, Tica Fishing tackle, Conquistador Tackle, Maxima Line, TTI-Blakemre Fishing Group, Kickin' Bass Fish Attractant and Rod Wrap for all their support.
