Protecting Yourself from the Heat
It's the time of Year where some knowledge of how to protect yourself while fishing in the heat of the day can pay big results, so you must learn to protect yourself while on the water. Heat stroke is a real possibility; you can pass out and fall into the water without warning from the heat. There is however some things that I do and you can do to prevent it.
First of all, wear light colored clothing it is cooler than dark colors as light colors deflect heat while dark colors absorb it. Next is loose fitting clothing is cooler than tight fitting clothing, there is an old trick that was taught to our troops during Vietnam where the troops practiced two things while trying to survive the heat in Vietnam. The first was to remove all under garments so that you have nothing tight fitting on your body, allowing your body to breath while you sweat from all areas of your body. The second thing is something that has been technologically improved over the years by Frogg Toggs. The troops were taught to keep something wet around the back of their neck. Frogg Toggs has come up with water holding cooling chilling pad or towel that absorbs and cools at the same time. This pad is an amazing product you just wet it put around your neck and the towel holds water to keep you cool and absorbs sweat at the same time.
There is also clothing made today that actually protects you from the UV rays of the sun, these are sold in most outdoor clothing stores. Not only is this clothing a good protective cover, it is also cooler than most similar type clothing because of the way it protects your skin from the sun. Protecting yourself also includes using sun-screen, every few hours while fishing recover your exposed body with sun-screen, you're body needs sun protection be smart and use it!
