Small Fish all over Guntersville
With all the tough days the last two years that has caused us to really question the state of our great lake; hope abounds as there appears to be small bass all over the lake as we finally see some fall change in the lake. It's certainly not what we expect of Lake Guntersville as we are used to catching big bass all year long, but we cannot deny that there is great numbers of small bass all over, giving hope that this downturn has an end in sight.
Somehow the spawn must have been extremely successful this past few years as the numbers of bass in the four to six inch range are everywhere, we have had days where we have caught catch nearly 100 of these small fish in an eight hour fishing day. Small bass are gorging themselves on gobs of bait all you need to do is find the bait fish and you can have an awesome day with catching numbers. It's certainly not what Lake Guntersville is known for but it does give me hope that we will see these bass mature and become the future of some great years ahead.
Catching these small fish has been easy, all you have to do is find the bait movement and there are opportunities for you to but gobs of small bass in the boat. Don't forget the lake has a 15 inch limit so don't put these small bass in your live well; put them back let them grow into our future and give us all a chance to see the lake gain its big fish image back so we can all get back to the good times.
Lastly treat these small fish with care; we don't want to be guilty of having killed out our future it's hard enough for these small fish to survive as the predators alone will eliminate a great percentage. Enjoy the catching, be an advocate of putting them back in good condition and let us all hope this is a sign of good times to come.
