Some Fall Techniques
There is no time of year that you can catch fish on such a wide variety of techniques as you can in the fall of the year. One of the important things about fishing in the fall is the variety of patterns you can use to catch fish. There is fish shallow, in the mid-range of depth and in the deep water; allowing you to try many different things to put fish in the boat. There are so many different techniques that work in the fall that you can choose your pattern and most times have some remarkably successful days.
There are some keys to look for and activity from bait fish lead to a catching fish in the fall, if you pull up to an area and the bait fish are active or there being pushed by feeding bass you have great chance of being successful. The technique you decide on at that point is wide open! When the fish are feeding there are so many different techniques that work that the choice is yours. If you are a top water angler, then have at it; if you like pulling crank baits, that would work also. The important thing is that in the fall the bass are always active when water temperatures start dropping. Bass will feed for a couple of months, about all day long this time of year and you can put your favorite lure to work and catch fish!
I have started the day many times fishing top water in the fall, and seen it be successful from daylight to dark; I have also used crank baits, or spinner baits and had the same results. Fall fishing is not easy as you are competing with them feeding on live bait with artificial baits and tons of bait fish. Persistence is important, stick with you bait and get them to react to its movement. Many times, you just must get them into a feeding frenzy to get them to pull off the natural bait, but when you do its on and you can catch a ton of fish. Change colors, change to baits that make noise and to different wobbles until you find the right bait, and when you do it will pay off!
