A Report on the Status of the LGAA

The Lake Guntersville Anglers Association has been hard at work putting together a membership drive that has enough size and voice to be heard all through the community. We started with several concerns that many of us agreed needed to be changed to better the lake and make Guntersville a better place for all to fish and boat. So far it appears that bad weather has seemed to hurt our membership drive as every month we seem to be bumping up against storms on the night of the meetings.

We have made some decisions on meetings dates so we can all plan our attendance a little easier; we will meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm with the meeting site bouncing every 2 months from a site in Scottsboro to a site in Guntersville. That puts the July meeting the 19th of July in Guntersville. The best news on the membership front is the mayor of Guntersville Mayor Bob Hembree has joined the organization and appears to be enthusiastic about making our lake the best fishing lake in the country while balancing the needs of the boaters. He has openly expressed his concern to us over the importance of the lake to the city of Guntersville for tax revenue from the fishing industry. Mayor Hembree has vowed to help address the lake needs and concerns and help bring some increased membership and voice to the LGAA. He has also voiced concerns over the gill-netting issue that for years has been a problem for the lake.

The most important thing we can all do now is join the LGAA we need all of our guides and all of our tourist business leaders and political leaders as well as fisherman and boaters to help be a voice. We cannot do this without everyone joining and becoming part of our passion to improve the lake, a passion that will improve the fishing and boating on our lake. We have many agenda items to be addressed but none of it can be accomplished without you. Help us take one item at a time and make Lake Guntersville a great place for all to enjoy!
