During the mid-morning to late-evening period, during the months of August and often on into the latter part of September, is the hottest part of your fishing day. If your sitting out in the middle of the lake, there is no relief, unless you bring along a huge beach umbrella or you take a dip in the lake!
But escaping the often 100 degree scorching heat is possible. It can be 10 degrees cooler in the shade! Fish from dawn for a few hours and your OK. But as mid morning arrives and your shirt suddenly becomes soaking wet, its time to find places where the sun don't shine and take a few very needed breaks.
Lakes like Guntersville lake, Alabama have bridges and causeways. So do most Alabama lakes. Good, shady places to escape the midday heat and often find a cool breeze that can funnel its way up under these man made structures and help you cool down as well!
Problem is, other anglers, especially crappie and catfish anglers, are often found here as well. So looking for other places, where other anglers are not around, may be better for seeing less crowded situations and having far less company.
Places like the shade provided along deep banks, around piers and boat houses, and even the backs of creeks with overhanging trees and bushes. Places that not only provide shade, but the wood, weed and rock cover hold shallow, summertime bass as well! So look for shade!
While you keep your cool this summer season!
