The newest and biggest phenomenon in fishing over many years is the swim bait; and most of my customers don't seem to know how to fish them. The technique for fishing them is simple yet incredible deadly. The key is making as long as cast as possible and slowly moving it back to the boat by keeping contact with the bottom structure. The part of fishing swim-baits that many people don't seem to understand is boat position. Your boat being positioned to allow you to make key position casts can be the difference in catching or not. Your ability to be able to hit key bass holding spots with the swim bait and as many as possible around the structure is the big difference maker many times in being productive or not. For example while fishing a point you need to be able to hit the tip of the point, the top and the down one side. If you position your boat to do this and combine with the windy side where bait seems to get pushed you can fish a point and catch fish on the swim bait very easily.
In choosing swim baits there are several types available out there, some have hooks and are already weighted and others require you to supply both. I like the weighted type with the hooks already in them in early spring, and summer deep-water fishing. However when the grass is up and the fish are relating to the grass edges I go to hollow swim baits that requires you to fish a weighted hook and rig it Texas style to keep the hook from catching the grass. The weighted hooks tear the swim bait unless you get the type that you can screw into the nose of the bait.
Swim baits are here and they will continue to be improved over the next couple of years, come fish them with me you will be amazed at their versatility.Fish Lake Guntersville Guide Service
