Many anglers hit the water in the fall and fail to understand the fishing catching ability of the buzzbait. The buzzbait is one of the best lures to pull bass out of grass and up from the bottom over cover. When the fish are moving shallow its pulls them up over cover like no other bait. Not only is the buzzbait bite exciting, but it also catches big fish; and there is nothing like a 6-pound bass hitting a buzzbait on top! The biggest keys to a buzzbait is it can be heard and puts out a vibration, and that is a deadly combination for catching big fish.
Some key tips for using a buzzbait can make the difference in catching fish. The first being to vary your speed, slow it down, speed it up this change in retrieve rate changes the noise level and aggravates a bass into biting. Something many folks don't ever think of in retrieving a buzzbait is to change the direction of the bait. I often when fishing alone, have two buzzbait rigged, one that will run to the right as you retrieve it and the other that will run to the left. Something as subtle and direction can make a big difference as to whether you catch a few or several fish. You see bass have a tendency to be positioned toward the current and the directional change of your retrieve can make all the difference in the world. If their positioned where you not putting the bait in front of them, as subtle as the current might be; you may very well pull it bye a bass before they see it or hear it. That slight directional change moves the bait many times to where the bass is now positioned to strike it.
Lastly because the fall is generally a time we have a lot of wind, and a buzzbait is sometimes tuff to throw into the wind. I make a slight change by taking off the skirt, putting on a trailer like you would use on a spinner bait, and it cuts down the resistance of the wind.
