Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/21/11

This week on the lake was all about finding transition fish, bass that are moving to some of the summertime patterns. If you couldn't find the transition fish you struggled because the shallow pattern is just about gone until the bass spread the lake as the grass thickens.

We spent a little too much time chasing the shallow fish and hence struggled some for a couple of the days as the bass moved to their transition humps and ledges. We caught fish but the numbers and size was down because we continued to stay shallow and should not have.

As we move forward it's time to get to the off shore structure and move out with the bass. Fishing will turn to deeper type baits like Carolina rigs, deep crank baits, and heavy jigs off the humps and ledges. Catches will be small for a while as the females repair their bodies and begin to feed again from the spawn. You have to work for your bites for the next week or so but the fishing will get better as the summer sets in.
