When do you Leave a Spot during a Tournament
During the B.A.S.S. Classic Kevin Van Dam once again proved he had decision making abilities second to none. This to me defines his name and his earnings and his dominance in the sport of bass fishing. Never in the history of professional fishing has any angler made a mark in this sport the way he has; to me this accentuates his confidence and his patience in a sport where most anglers would become frustrated and move on!
In case you didn't know it, KVD spent all 3 days in the same creek on Lay Lake in Birmingham and didn't burn $10 worth of fuel and earned a $500,000 pay check. What did he know and why did others run miles and miles only to be disappointed. In my opinion KVD prepared by making mental notes of the very keys we all discuss day in and out. That being water temperature, available structure, under water points, water movement and the natural meteorological and biological keys that we read and hear about. The difference is to KVD he understands them and most of us just read about them. My suggestion is that we all become more educated on these topics so our natural instincts become educated moves instead of guesses or gut instincts. You see KVD knew he was in a spot where the fish would move to with just a few of the natural elements to line up correctly. He was around stumps, in water ranging from 6 to 10 feet, he was close to the mouth of the creek, there was just enough current to move the bait and food with a little warmer water and if he kept working that area the bass would move in and feed. He had caught enough good fish in this area in practice and knew the area would attract more of them.
What else need to be said, knowledge overcame gut instincts and he's a half a million dollars richer to prove it.
