Mosquito Lagoon, New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach fishing report

The fishing here in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area has been good with double digit days of nice trout and redfish coming boat side

along with some jacks , ladyfish, flounder, and snook mixed in as well. I have been targeting the trout early in the morning but have also been catching consistantly all day.

I like to use plugs and twitch baits early targeting the schools of bait on the shallow grass then moving to a soft plastic or live bait later in the day on the deeper edges

of mosquito lagoon . As far as The redfish they can also be found on the bars and shallow grass flats through out Mosquito Lagoon mixed in with

the large schools of bait. They have been shallow early in the morning literally crawling in the grass and tailing in the shallows. They have been eating soft plastics and

Auqa Dream spoons very well but if live bait is more your style then pinfish, pigfish, cut bait and mullet are all

a good choice of bait. We have had some cooler water move in off the beach in the last month but seems to rising back in the low 80's which will bring life

back to the beach and inlet fishing. We still have good numbers of tarpon through out New Smyrna and Mosquito lagoon area from juveniles to hundred and fity

pound class. I like to target the tarpon early morning or late evening throwing upgraded plugs and live bait from pinfish to live finger mullet. make sure you

upgrade your terminal tackle because no one wants to show up to a gun fight holding a pocket knife.

Good luck and be safe
