Mosquito Lagoon, New Smyrna Beach and Daytona Beach fishing report
The fishing here in New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito Lagoon area has been a steady bite with several nice trout and redfish being caught daily
along with some jacks , ladyfish, flounder, and snook mixed in as well. I have been targeting the trout early in the morning with plugs and jerk baits holding around the large bait pods on the shallow grass flats
of mosquito lagoon . As the water starts to warm later in the morning I am moving north into Edgwater and New Smyrna area in search of the cooler water temps and focusing on the deeper
edges with pigfish and mullet for bait. As far as The redfish they can also be found on the bars and shallow grass flats through out Mosquito Lagoon mixed in with
the large schools of bait. They have been eating soft plastics and Auqa Dream spoons very well but if live bait is more your style then pinfish, pigfish, cut bait and mullet are all
a good choice for a bite. We have also had alot of tarpon, bonita, and sharks off the beaches of both Daytona and New Smyrna but check the weather before heading out as the storms have
been building quickly. I like to throw live pinfish and mullet along with a variety of artificals from twitch baits to divinging plugs when targeting these species.
We still have some openings left for the month of August so don't miss out on the chance to see the beauty of New Smyrna Beach and Mosquito
Lagoon.
Good luck and be safe
