The fall fishing has officially kicked off, although you wouldn't know it by the temperatures. Each day it is still getting into the 90s and we are patiently waiting for the first round of cold fronts to cool things off and bring some sailfish into our area consisenty. In the meantime, the fishing has been absolutely awesome. I would credit it mostly to the disturbance of hurricane Irma shaking things up. There has been a lot of debris offshore along with bait and birds giving away the location of the fish.
On a recent trip, we had some great anglers in town that had a banner day. We did some trolling for kingfish and got several along with a few bonita. The limit for kingfish is only 2 per person, so with a limit we decided to switch it up and do some bottom/wreck fishing. When you book a 6 or 8 hour trip, you give us the opportunity to try many different tactics that we couldn't do on a 4 hour trip, so keep that in mind when you are booking your trips.
Our captain pulled up to one of our honey holes to see some great marks on the fish finder. We knew there was some fish home and it was just a matter of time before they would bite. We proceeded to catch not 1, not 2, but 3 black grouper! The anglers did great putting the heat on the fish to pull them off their holes.
These fish are absolutely gorgeous out of the water and quite the trophy catch. They taste even better. Back at the dock we filleted the fish for our anglers and they went home with some full coolers!
This has been the story on just about all our sportfishing trips. Lots of kingfish with the occasional sailfish, cobia, mahi and wahoo. There was a nice NE wind out there today, so I expect the sailfish to bite a little better this week.
Aboard the Lois Ann, our drift boat, the bottom fishing has been great. Remember there are no fences in the ocean, so even though the price is only $45 to get aboard, you still have the opportunity to catch kingfish, mahi, cobia, and even sailfish! And that is just what has been happening.
Our captains have been inching the boat out a little deeper to get on a hot kingfish bite and this has been the result:
That about catches us up. We are fishing 3 trips daily all week and now booking up October and November. If you would like to go fishing, please give us a call.
Tight Lines,
