Not any fishing this past week due to Tropical Storm Fay! That was one storm that just wouldn't go away. We got plenty of rain and wind in Jacksonville Florida that's for sure…
Things are settled back down now and it looks like a great week ahead. That's good news for me because I have several charters booked for the Labor Day week and weekend. My experience in the past has shown that after the water clears back up the fishing is usually on FIRE!!!
Enough about Fay. I had 2 trips last weekend August the16th and 17th and the fishing was pretty good. On one trip we float fished and caught plenty of small Trout and quite a few nice Mangrove Snapper. We then moved to the creek and worked some minnows under small corks along the grass lines. We caught 4 Reds to cap off the trip. They weren't monsters but big enough to bend the rod…
Sunday was a little different. First thing was they were interested in big Red fish only which I told them might make for a long 4 hours. But that's what they wanted to do. We caught several small Reds and one decent Flounder before I told them we needed to go to several spots and just soak some crabs.
The larger fish just weren't in the mood. After hooking our 3rd big Red we finally got one out of the grass and in the net. I guess it was worth it to them because they were proud of that 9 pound Red that we boated. That's the down side to soaking crab in the flooded grass because when they pick it up they are already 3 foot into the grass and a 9 pound Red is going where he wants to go for a while.
Thanks for a couple of fun mornings on the water.
