The past three days have been as different as winter and summer as far as the

weather goes. On Tuesday we seen 2.46 inches of much needed rain here

on the St Johns River. Then on Wed we had bright sunny skies and not a

cloud or even a breeze. Today on the other hand we had rain, clouds and wind

all day. But the fish seemed very happy.

My clients on Wed Amy and Jay from Colorado had a great trip. We started the

morning off fishing some schooling fish that were busting shad. After catching

quite a few we moved on to fishing a frog over the top of grass mats and caught

a few but not many. We then pulled into an area I have been doing really well

in with wild shiners. It was game on for the next two hours with Amy and Jay catching

9 nice fish between 3 and 5 pounds. Today Thursday I had the pleasure of fishing

with a couple golf pros from Indiana named Andy and Justin, We started the day

fishing some schooling fish and these guys caught 10 or 12 fish from the schoolers.

Then we set out for the big fish throwing a frog over grass mats on the main river.

The weather today was really bad with 20 to 30 MPH winds and rain most of the

day. The frog bite was a little slower today then it has been the past week. Around

1 pm Andy and Justin had not seen a fish in about one hour and we were talking

about cutting this 8 hour trip to a 6 hour. I explained to them that the one great

thing about the St Johns River is on any cast a 10 pound plus fish can be caught.

After a few minutes of talking they decided to fish the full 8 hours.

Thank God we did because about 20 minutes later Andy was reeling his frog

through a patch of grass and it looked like a cement block fell from the sky

on top of his frog. This fish headed straight to the open water and began jumping

and acting up big time. Andy handled this fish like a pro and a few minutes later

I lipped a Beautiful St Johns River Trophy Bass weighing 10 pounds on the nose.

All Bass Challenger Trophy Bass Area Weighed On A Certified Boga Grip Scale.

Andy also caught a 6.8 from the same area.

The fish are very active as we now have our fall shad run going on. Main River

points and shellbeds are the key for the schooling fish. Best baits have been

Rattle Traps and a C Rigged Biters Bait and Tackle 7.5 Junebug Blue Tail Worm.

I have days open in Nov and Dec and the fishing will only get better as winter arrives

The St Johns River is only minutes from Orlando Disney World and Daytona Beach.
