This has been one Great Week here on the St Johns River with my clients
catching 5 fish between 8 and 11 LBS.The fish are starting to move into the
spawning areas off the main river channel and this will continue through
the next three months.With all the cold weather we had at the beginning
of Jan the bass were a few weeks behind from last year to get the spawn
started.We have been catching all of our Trophy Bass the past 6 days
on Large Wild Shiners.Some days we have been getting 30 to 40 bites
and other days 15 to 25 bites but the great thing is most of these bites
are from the bigger females.The HighBanks area has been the most productive
for floating these Wild Shiners under grass mats.My clients today were
Bill Jr and father in-law Joe from NJ these guys had such a great trip with me
on Jan 21st that they had to come back one more time before heading back
to NJ this weekend.On the Jan 21st trip Joe was the big fish winner catching
a beautiful fish weighing just over 10 pounds.When we met this morning at the
ramp Bill was first to tell me he would be taking home the big fish honors
on this trip.Man was he right!! We got the boat set at the first grass patch
and the first shiner to enter the water was inhaled by a big fish and guess what
the shiner was on Bill's Rod.After a perfect hook set Bill was doing battle with
a big St Johns River Trophy that just couldn't stay in the water as this big fish
jumped 3 or 4 times before coming in the boat.The fish took the Certified Boga
Grip to 9 1/4 pounds the next bait to get hit belonged to Joe and again after a
great hook set Joe had a nice 7 pounder in the boat.The action today was steady
and these two guys had the trip of a lifetime twice in 6 days here on the St Johns
River.I have been using the USA Custom Rod's Camo Stix's for a week now
and every one of the Trophy Bass caught this week have been on these fine rods.
