It was nice to get back on the water after being sick for two weeks.
On Saturday 09/18/2010 I met Mike W from Melbourne Beach FL at the Hwy 46 Bridge on the St Johns River.Mike was interested in trying to catch one of the Big
St Johns River Trophy Bass that live in that area of the St Johns River.
I was excited as I knew none of my big fish spots had been fished in weeks.
We set out with 42 nice Wild Shiners looking for a Trophy Bass.
We pulled into our first spot and waited for about 30 minutes before Mikes first
bite. The big fish hit the shiner and headed back to the heavy cover it call's home.
Mike had the fish hooked for a few minutes but the fish won the battle and broke
the 25 LB mono.It didn't take but a minute for the next big fish to hit and this fish
came unbuttoned have way back to the boat. This was not a good start.
The next bite everything worked as planned and Mike brought the 4 pounder
to the boat after a few more fish in the 2 to 4 pound range it was time to changes
locations. We headed to another small but deep area where I have caught many
fish over 10 pounds the past 25 years.First shiner in the water gets nailed
by a Giant Trophy Bass but comes unhooked and the next shiner was eaten
by a 5 pounder then a smaller 3 pounder came boat side.Time to move !!
The next 4 spots all produced nice fish to 6 pounds but no trophies.
Mike ended up with 12 nice fish with most weighing between 4 and 6 pounds.
Not bad for a 6 HR trip but not the trip we had planned.Mike will be back next
weekend to try his luck again.
The water temps are cooling down and it's time to start pitching those big
wild shiners into the small holes along the river bank where these Big St
Johns River Trophy Bass Live.I still have days open this month if you are
interested in catching that fish of a lifetime.
