Bass have been biting well in the Stick Marsh and Farm 13. There are a large number of bass scattered throughout the wooded areas of the Farm. The bass are in water from six inches deep to four feet deep. Myself and my clients have been able to catch bass on Senko type baits such as the Tiki Stick; Hugh Crumpler Spinnerbaits in the ¼ ounce size; CCTB's (Chatter Clatter Type Bait); and wild shiners.
What ever your choice to lure the bass the biggest key has been a slow presentation. The Tiki Stick type baits required usage without weight and letting the lure sink without tension. When the slack was taken up the bass could be noticed swimming away with the lure. Closeness to wood was also critical. We have used Red Bug with Chartruce Tip, Chartruce, and Bubble Gum Colored Senko type lures. I am sure any color you try will work. Technique seemed to be the key.
Today some bass were caught on Green colored CCTB's. That could be Frog or Wild Shiner. They just told me "green". I tried a Buzzbait for awhile. I had one awesome blow up but no hook up. It was a bunch of casting for one bite.
Tue really huge bass have not shown up in large numbers. Last week Joe Dove had a ten and an eleven. I have not heard of any over ten this week. They WILL be coming soon!!! Conditions could not be much better. February and March are always good months. January is also very good. This is mid-January - I'm looking for some awesome catches in the coming three months.
