Mattern Guide Service on Lake Palestine & Sam Rayburn & Lake Fairfield
Hello Everybody,
LUKE 9; Verses 23 & 24; And He said unto them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny Himself, and take up His cross daily, and follow me.
SAM RAYBURN; What a Lake Big Sam is! A 13.25 lber came in caught by Bob Taylor (not while fishing with me), March 13 th. He caught Her on a red Lizard worked in 5 feet of water.
This makes Big Sam 3rd in the State for Lunker program Bass in the 13 lb. or over Bass.
Over 25 Bass a day is common right now with Bass in Pre-Spawn and Spawning mode. Should last a couple months.
Water temps are up in the high 60's in most of the coves and The Bass are prowling the shallows. Bass up to 8 lbs. came to the boat this week with several 5-6 lbers. Good baits are rattle traps and spinnerbaits fished early in 2-4 feet. Good colors are reds, oranges, pumpkinseed, black & blue back chrome on traps and white and chartruse or combo's of both.
Also shallow running crankbaits in chartruse and red crawfish are great choices. Several Big Bass came to the boat on Black & Blue Nichols 1/2 ounce Jigs teamed up with a Nichol's crawfish or a Uncle Josh pork frog.
E2 baits bob-tail Lizard has been working well on staging Bass near spawning grounds in Black & Blue, Red Shad & Watermelon Red.
LAKE PALESTINE: Lake Palestine runs behind Big Sam on the Spawn about 2-3 weeks. April on is usually the main spawn. Water temps were from 58-64 degrees and Big Females are staging out before spawning flats.
A 7.1 lber. was caught this week by Fritz Hager Jr. and also several came to the boat pushing 6 lbs. Nichols spinnerbaits did the job in Chartruse/White combo's.
About 8-10 Bass a day are comming to the boat up to 7 lbs. right now as we get into April numbers will increase but now those Bigger Pre-Spawn Females are ready to pick. They are scattered but Huge.
LAKE FAIRFIELD; Got to take 3 Military Men out this week Don Summers,Glen, & Pete. Glen and Pete are from Tennessee and Don is from Palestine, Texas. They caught their first Bass since the early 1980's. It was great to hear How they fought for us in Okanawa(hope I spelled that right and other countries during the World War 1. God Bless all the military for keeping us free to Bass Fish and all they do Amen.
Bass are in the Spawning and Post Spawn mode right now at Lake Fairfield. Water temps are in the upper 60's to 70 degree mark. Bass are really feeding well for the first 2 hours on the banks and hitting white or chartruse spinnerbaits or Texas rigged creature baits in watermelon candy. Move out after it warms and you can stay with the fish in 4-6 feet of water.
