The boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association have settled into their summer routine of inshore fluke fishing, trolling for small bluefish in the inlet and close to the beach, fluke and sea bass fishing on the wrecks and artificial reefs, and trolling the warm offshore waters for tuna, shark, mahi-mahi, and billfish.
The Miss Beach Haven under Captains Frank Camarda and Brant Whittaker has seen the fluke bite improving on just about a daily basis. On their weekday trips in the bay waters they are finding good numbers of fluke with a decent ration of keepers to throwbacks. On the weekends when they travel into the ocean their anglers are finding a mixed bag of fluke, sea bass, and even some ling. Now that blackfish are back in season, they are hopeful of locating a few of them on the bottom with some structure.
Captain Lindsay Fuller on the June Bug had the Haggerty family out on Monday for a day of inshore fishing. Fellow Association Captain John Lewis served as mate for the day assisted by junior mate Pat Coyne. With anglers as young as 4 year old Fiona, Captain Lindsay remained inside the inlet. With the wind and tide aligned, their fast drift made fishing difficult. Captain Lindsay commented the family enjoyed their day on the water despite the slow bite caused by the tide.
Some of the captains of the BHCFA are looking forward to fishing in the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club's White Marlin Tournament July 27-30.
