The boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association have been working the wrecks and reefs seeking a variety of fish as they await the May 28 start of the black sea bass season.
Captain Adam Nowalsky ran a half day bachelor party recently on the "Karen Ann II." Evan Weis set up the soiree in honor of Jared's big day. Despite leaving the dock with a few showers, the weather and sea conditions were fine.
Since the group was more interested in catching fish than taking any home, Captain Adam anchored up for a few hours in one of his blackfish hotspots. They found a good steady bite and managed to land and release over 2 dozen blackfish.
The "Miss Beach Haven" sailed last Saturday under Captain Frank Camarda on a 10-hour cod fishing trip. These trips have become very popular, and several anglers were shut out as they failed to reserve their spots in time.
The boat fished in two locations, catching over 30 cod in the 3-6 pound range. They also managed over 100 ling. In addition some nice black sea bass and tautog came over the rails but had to be returned as their seasons are closed. The pool winner for the trip was a cod that weighed in at almost 8-pounds.
The "Miss Beach Haven" will be turning its attention to black sea bass this weekend as the season opens up on May 28.
Captain Lindsay Fuller is bringing the "June Bug" back up from North Carolina this weekend for the 2011 fishing season. Captain Lindsay says he plans to make a slow trip up and do some fishing, trying to pick up some tuna and mahi-mahi.
