The captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association are catching fluke as the season draws to a close on September 28 and while also planning for the re-opening of black sea bass on September 23.
Captain Fran Verdi on the "Francesca Marie" reports he has been experiencing some excellent ocean fishing for the past month. He has been putting together good catches of fluke, black sea bass, triggerfish, and small bluefish. Captain Fran says it has been some of his best fluke fishing in years, and the sea bass seem to be getting larger as the summer goes on. He has been fishing both the inshore reef sites and the deeper water wrecks offshore.
Captain Fran has some big plans for the upcoming weeks. He is planning some marathon fishing trips weather permitting. On Friday, September 28, he plans a long day going after fluke on the last day of their 2012 season.
According to First Mate Sal Rosa on the head boat "Miss Beach Haven," the last few trips have been cancelled by the large ocean swells. Previous to the poor ocean conditions, Captain Frank Camarda had been finding an improving bite of fluke on the inshore reefs. On three recent trips, Artie from Beach Haven was the pool winner with nice fluke on three consecutive days. Captain Frank is taking reservations on a 10-hour fluke trip on September 28.
