The Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association reports a couple of captains were able to get out and catch some fish despite the recent poor weather. Captain Adam Nowalsky on the "Karen Ann II" out of Great Bay Marina continues to experience good sea bass fishing. The Acevedo party from Reading, Pa., had all they wanted to 3.5-pounds. Another day the Chang family from Hamilton, NJ, had their limit. He is looking forward to the fluke season opener this weekend. Captain Fran Verdi on the "Drop Off" had an open boat party that had plenty of action on dog sharks but no bass or drum fish. Cold and dirty water from the storms made the bay water almost unfishable. On Saturday he took an open boat trip with Brian Shea and Steve Magyar to the reef for some sea bass. They managed to boat 19 sea bass in 60-feet of water and one 18-inch fluke which was released. Captain Frank Camarda on the "Miss Beach Haven" found excellent sea bass fishing last Sunday in 70-feet of water. Average catch was in the mid teens with some limit catches. They also released numerous keeper sized blackfish. Captain Dave Wittenborn reports his new boat, a 29-foot Regulator named "Compass Rose has arrived and is ready to fish. The fully equipped boat will be starting shakedown trips soon. Captain Lindsay Fuller has the "June Bug" back from Hatteras and will be fishing here very shortly.
