Captain Chris Colvin, Captain Jim Fesperman and Captain Steven all share the same passion for inshore fishing. Get all 3 together hunting big snook it gets intense, comical and hysterical at times. We got rolling around 6 pm and were greeted by amazing weather. It had rained heavily but now the big, black Cumulus clouds were all well inshore leaving us with a breathtaking view. Tampa Bay at its finest! We ran to the Skyway Bridge for baits both scaled sardines and pinfish. With Capt. Jim at the helm I had only to soak in all Mother Nature had to offer. We were flying along at 55 mph so getting there was quick, fast and in a hurry. It's cool following the highway and staying up with the cars on the bridges.
First target was the beaches off Ft. Desoto. Pitching scaled sardines and pinfish did the job. Captain Jim showed the way by hooking a snook that ran 100 yards down the beach. Capt. Chris and I could have taken a nap as Jim played this snook a long time. A quick picture and back she went. Beautiful, silvery fat happy beach snook. The bite was not aggressive at the beach but still worth the effort. These spawning snook will soon move back into Tampa Bay. After dark our first stop was frustrating, big snook one after the other would cruise by but not take our offerings. We decided to do some exploring as we often do when clients are not onboard. We found a dock light with a pig on it. Capt. Steven quickly got his bait in and received a thunderous hit. Just as quickly the fish was gone. Its thrilling watch 3' of snook chase then inhale your bait. Tonight we have seen snookzilla's only, very impressive.
Next stop was a bridge and we were shocked by what we found. 10 maybe 12 snook all at 3' or larger hugging the pilings. Plus all around us were large ladyfish flying all about. I had two pinfish crushed and in both cases this Captain could not get the job done! And of course Jim and Chris were quick to point that out.
This was a quick outing and were in by 11. Our last stop a new dock light for us was loaded with nice trout. Nothing under 16", these trout were very aggressive and lots of fun. Great evening all together, big snook, perfect weather and great pals.
