Captain George Finck of the boat "Spare Time" had a fishing week last week that showed best just how varied and exciting the fishing in Beach Haven can be for the boats of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association.
Early last week he was very busy with many bottom fishing trips where the charters caught many short fluke and short black sea bass. The anglers all had patience, however, and managed to return to the dock with some nice keeper fluke and sea bass. Later in the week he had a trip offshore to the canyons with Ken Lieb and some friends. The group returned to the dock with 5 fat yellowfin tuna and one monster bigeye tuna that tipped the scales at 199-pounds.
Captain Dave Wittenborn on the "Compass Rose" fished the Losier family from Boston for the second year in a row. Emily Losier had the doormat fluke of the day at 8.64 pounds and measuring 28.5-inches. She was high hook for the group for the second year in a row. They finished the half day trip with 8 keepers, 3 of which were over 5.5-pounds.
Captain Fran Verdi on the "Francesca Marie" has been finding some hot fluke fishing by heading a little bit south of Little Egg Inlet. One day last week he had a 4-man group limit out on keeper fluke. A great day!
