Big Hammerhead Shark 7/14/11

Fort Lauderdale Fishing for sharks can be rather exciting and today was no exception. Alex and his girl Sam joined us for some Ft Lauderdale sport fishing all the way from Chicago. We started the day with some trolling and quickly nabbed our limit of nice kingfish, plus a box of bonitas. After that it was off to the deep for some shark fishing. We rigged up three 100# rods in typical Ft Lauderdale shark fishing fashion, with big slabs of bonitas and king. The conditions were a little against us as the current went from a trickle north to almost nonexistent. We stuck it out and approaching the one hour mark we got a good bite on the bottom rod. I went ahead with the boat to help keep it tight and about a 100 yards of line cracked off the reel and ten disaster, THE HOOKED PULLED! After some "F" Bombs we set back up and within minutes had a second bite. And this time we were CONNECTED!! Sam jumped in the fighting chair first and slugged out the first 15-20 minutes before Alex traded spots with Sam and went to work. After finding his rhythm Alex worked the big hammer head shark to the boat for a measurement of 95 inches (about 200-250#'s). Great fish Alex!!
