with the water temp out of buffalo n.y holding at 56 to 61 in the shallows . pre spawn smallmouth are moving in to spawn . tha average depth for lake erie smallmouth to spawn in is any were from 13 to 20 feet. look for gravel or small chunk rock on the bottom . casting a tube bait (prowler pro pitch)in and around rocky or gravel structure will produce some nice smallmouth . berkeley gulp ,leeches &, emerald shinner bait also works well . verticle jigging these baits over deeper water, around the gravel and rocky areas. these fish will hold in the deeper water after they spawn. casting and slowly jigging your bait back to the boat is a good pattern to try. smaller male fish are also starting to be caught in the one and a half to two and a half pound class. west or south winds will produce the best days on the lake . soon as the smallmouth are done spawning .late june all the way threw late october ,these fish are in a summer pattern .if you know were to find them ,you can have a great time on the lake .
